The lifestory of Suzan Bishowkarma
I slept on the street for 1 year. From age 9. I slept mostly around Bodha (a part of Kathmandu) in between the houses of the people. I went to go to the street to meet my friends. And I was bored to stay with my mother. I didn’t go to school. My father lived in the village with another woman.
I have 3 younger brothers and 3 older sisters. At home I worked sometimes with my brother to make labels in clothing. My brothers were also mostly on the street. My older brother told me how to use dene.
[Susan comes from a very low social class, so there is by most of them no pride or prestige in the family, Because they had already a bad class and bad reputation, they don’t even try to be respectable. Most of them drink al lot of alcohol etc. and don’t care what the children are doing.]
I ran away from home and finally my mother let me go. She beat me when I was at home. She tight me with a rope in the beginning when I ran away and took me back home.
I used to take glue and I smoked. When I took dene I looked at the stars. I felt dizzy because of the dene and I was not hungry. I slept well when I took dene and I forgot everything.
In the street I begged with foreigners. When I had money , I had to be very awake because other bigger kids came and they tried to take my money. I stole money and other things, also from my mother.
Now I go to school and I like it very much; I also can play and eat and I have nice things to wear.
I like to be a scout and maybe I like to go in the army.
Sujan is now 14, and he is in class 6
